WE ARE ESSENTIAL SERVICES: OPEN FOR ONSITE ACU, CHIRO, FST, MASSAGE & PHYSIO
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy. Although pelvic dysfunction predominantly affects females, up to 16% of males suffer as well. Symptoms include pelvic pain, pressure, pain during sex, incontinence, incomplete emptying, and visible organ protrusion. Tissues surrounding the pelvic organs may have increased or decreased sensitivity or irritation resulting in pelvic pain.
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction can be caused by:
1. HYPOTONICITY (Weak pelvic floor muscles): contributing to stress incontinence, urge incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Incontinence is NOT a normal part of aging
2. HYPERTONICITY (Tight pelvic floor muscles): contributing to Urinary and Fecal Urgency, Urge Incontinence, Chronic Pelvic Pain, Dyspareunia, Vaginismus, Vulvodynia, Pudendal Neuralgia, Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Prostatitis
Care plans will aim at strengthening, stretching and coordination of muscle activation to name a few. Your assessment and treatment may require an internal exam but this is optional. Your pelvic floor physiotherapist will discuss your options with you as it pertains to your specific case.
