Elvis Luke Fernandez, is our physiotherapist with a Master's degree. He has 10 plus years of work experience ranging from countries like India, Kuwait and Canada under various settings. He's passionate about helping his patients. He specializes primarily in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
Outside of work he enjoys indulging in hobbies like photography and trekking.
I graduated with my Masters of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University in 2016. Since graduating, I have worked with a variety of patients in different healthcare settings including emergency department, orthopedic and general surgery, intensive care unit, and palliative care. Of these experiences, I felt the most passionate about the role of physiotherapy in preventing disease and managing chronic pain.
I focus on providing patient-centered care, which includes a balance of education, exercise, hands-on therapy, acupuncture, and self-management programs. My goal as a Physiotherapist is to help patients be able to do activities that are meaningful to them, and to maintain their best level of function. I have additional training in pelvic health and integrate this knowledge in caring for patients living with incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic pain across the lifespan.
I teach in the Physiotherapy program at McMaster University as an assistant clinical professor (adjunct) and as lecturer (status only) in the Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto. I have a research interest in the effects of long COVID and am a current presenter in the Long COVID education rounds.
I studied kinesiology at York University where I played varsity soccer during my 1st year. I continued to work with elite soccer players on and off the pitch throughout my undergraduate training at the provincial and semi-professional levels. I had the privilege of working as a Physiotherapist at the Canada Summer Games in 2017, and continue to enjoy helping young athletes reach their goals at the clinic.
I stay active myself at the gym and through a variety of recreational sports, yoga, dance, gardening, hiking, biking and skiing. During our short warm season, you can find me paddle boarding along Kew-Balmy Beach!
